Hidrosfera din geografia fizică descrie masa combinată de apă găsită pe, sub și peste suprafața unei planete. Igor Shiklomanov, omul ales de Națiunile Unite pentru a face inventarul mondial al resurselor de apă, a estimat că există 1386 milioane de kilometri cubi de apă pe pământ. Masa totală a hidrosferei Pământului este de aproximativ 1,4 × 1018 tone, ceea ce reprezintă aproximativ 0,023% din masa totală a Pământului. Aproximativ 20 × 1012 de tone din aceasta se află în atmosfera Pământului. Aproximativ 75% din suprafața Pământului, o suprafață de aproximativ 361 milioane de kilometri pătrați, este acoperită de ocean.
