Ipoteză
O ipoteză este o explicație propusă pentru un fenomen. Pentru ca o ipoteză să fie o ipoteză științifică, metoda științifică necesită o încercare. Oamenii de știință în general stau la baza ipotezelor științifice privind observațiile anterioare care nu pot fi explicate în mod satisfăcător cu teoriile științifice disponibile. Chiar dacă termenii "ipoteză" și "teorie" sunt adesea folosiți sinonim, o ipoteză științifică nu este aceeași cu o teorie științifică.
