Indologie
Indologia este studiul academic al istoriei și al culturilor, limbilor și literaturii subcontinentului indian și, ca atare, este un subset al studiilor asiatice. Indologul poate fi, de asemenea, cunoscut sub numele de studii indice sau studii indiene sau studii din Asia de Sud, deși cercetătorii și administratorii universității au uneori interpretări numai parțiale ale acestor termeni. Termenul Indologie sau Indologie este adesea asociat cu bursa germană și este folosit mai frecvent în titlurile departamentale din universitățile germane și continentale europene decât în academia anglofonă. În Olanda, termenul Indologie a fost folosit pentru a desemna studiul istoriei și culturii indoneziene în pregătirea pentru servicii coloniale în Indiile de est olandeze. Mai exact, indologia include studiul literaturii sanscritice și al hinduismului, împreună cu alte religii indiene, jainism, budism și literatură Pali, și sikhism. Dravidologia este ramura separată dedicată limbilor dravidiane din India de Sud.
