Propriocepția, din latină proprius, adică "propria", "individuală" și percepție, este sensul poziției relative a părților vecine ale corpului și puterea efortului care este folosit în mișcare. Este furnizat de proprioceptori în mușchii schelați striați și în articulații. Se deosebește de exterocepție, prin care se percepe lumea exterioară și interocepția, prin care se percepe durerea, foamea etc., precum și mișcarea organelor interne. Creierul integrează informațiile de la propriocepție și din sistemul vestibular în sensul general al poziției, mișcării și accelerării corpului. Cuvântul kinesthesia a fost utilizat inconsecvent pentru a se referi fie la proprioception singur, fie la integrarea creierului a intrărilor proprioceptive și vestibulare.
