Tehnologia cunoașterii a fost definită în 1983 de către Edward Feigenbaum și Pamela McCorduck, după cum urmează: KE este o disciplină de inginerie care implică integrarea cunoștințelor în sistemele informatice pentru a rezolva probleme complexe care necesită în mod normal un nivel ridicat de expertiză umană.
