Amorpha canescens este un arbust de foioase de 30-90 cm în familia Pea, care este originară din America de Nord. Are flori purpurie foarte mici, grupate în racemuri. Frunzele compuse ale acestei plante apar plumb datorită părului lor dens. Rădăcinile pot crește mai adânc decât 1,2 metri. Această plantă poate fi găsită în creștere în soluri bine drenate de prairies, bluffs, și păduri deschise. Leadplantul a fost folosit de diverse popoare indigene pentru a trata o serie de probleme medicale. În plus, Oglala folosește frunzele atât ca un ceai, cât și ca un amestec de fumat atunci când este combinată cu grăsime de bivoli. Amorpha canescens a fost descris pentru știință de Frederick Pursh în 1814. Canescens este un termen botanic latin care înseamnă "a deveni gri".
