Logogram
O logogramă sau o logografie este o grafem care reprezintă un cuvânt sau un morfem. Acest lucru este în contrast cu fonogramele, care reprezintă foneme sau combinații de foneme și determinative, care marchează categorii semantice. Logogramele sunt cunoscute și ca "ideograme". Strict vorbind însă, ideogramele reprezintă mai degrabă idei în loc de cuvinte și morfeme și nici unul dintre sistemele logografice descrise aici nu este cu adevărat ideologic. O caracteristică a logogramelor este aceea că o singură logogramă poate fi utilizată de o multitudine de limbi pentru a reprezenta cuvinte cu semnificații similare. Deși limbile disparate pot folosi aceleași alfabete, abjade, abugidas, syllabarii și altele asemenea, gradul în care pot împărtăși reprezentări identice pentru cuvintele cu pronunții disparate este mult mai limitat.
