În radio, longwave se referă la părți ale spectrului de frecvențe radio cu lungimi de undă relativ lungi. Termenul este unul istoric care datează de la începutul secolului al XX-lea, când spectrul de frecvențe radio a fost considerat a consta din lungimi de undă lungi, medii și scurte. Cele mai multe sisteme și dispozitive radio moderne utilizează lungimi de undă care ar fi fost considerate "ultra-scurte". În utilizarea contemporană, termenul longwave nu este definit cu precizie, iar semnificația sa variază în întreaga lume. Definiția cea mai comună este banda de radio cu lungimi de undă mai mari de 1000 de metri, care includ frecvențele joase ale frecvențelor ITU și benzile de frecvență foarte scăzută, dar uneori sunt incluse și o parte din banda de frecvență medie. În toate cazurile, aceasta include întreaga bandă LF. În Statele Unite, Longwave Club of America este interesat de "frecvențe sub banda de emisie AM", adică toate frecvențele sub 535 kHz. In radio, longwave refers to parts of the radio spectrum with relatively long wavelengths. The term is a historic one dating from the early 20th century, when the radio spectrum was considered to consist of long, medium and short wavelengths. Most modern radio systems and devices use wavelengths which would then have been considered 'ultra-short'. In contemporary usage, the term longwave is not defined precisely and its meaning varies across the world. The most common definition is the radio band with wavelengths greater than 1000 meters, which would include the ITUs low frequency and very low frequency bands, but sometimes part of the medium frequency band is included. In all cases it includes the entire LF band. In the US, the Longwave Club of America is interested in "frequencies below the AM broadcast band", i.e., all frequencies below 535 kHz. In Europe, Africa and large parts of Asia, where a range of frequencies between 148.5 and 283.5 kHz is used for AM broadcasting, the term longwave usually refers specifically to this broadcasting band.
