O magnetosferă este aria spațiului din apropierea unui obiect astronomic în care particulele încărcate sunt controlate de câmpul magnetic al obiectului respectiv. În apropierea suprafeței obiectului, liniile câmpului magnetic se aseamănă cu cele ale unui dipol magnetic. Mai departe de suprafață, liniile de câmp sunt distorsionate în mod semnificativ de curenții electrici care curg în plasmă. Când vorbim despre Pământ, magnetosfera este folosită de obicei pentru a se referi la stratul exterior al ionosferei, deși unele surse consideră ionosfera și magnetosfera ca fiind separate.
