Mahseer
Mahseer este numele comun folosit pentru genurile Tor, Neolissochilus și Naziritor în familia Cyprinidae. Numele mahseer este, însă, mai frecvent limitat la membrii genului Tor. Gama acestor pești este din Malaezia, Indonezia, din Asia de Sud până în Iran, inclusiv din Peninsula Indiană. Acestea sunt pește de mare importanță din punct de vedere comercial, precum și pești de alimente foarte apreciați. Mahseer aduce un preț ridicat pe piață și sunt specii potențial candidate pentru acvacultură. Mai multe specii mai mari au suferit scăderi severe și sunt acum considerate amenințate din cauza poluării, a pierderii habitatelor și a pescuitului excesiv. Taxonomia mahăsilor este confuză datorită variațiilor morfologice pe care le manifestă. În elaborarea strategiilor de acvacultură și de reabilitare asistată a speciilor de mahăsire, este necesară rezolvarea ambiguităților taxonomice. Mahseers locuiesc atât în râuri, cât și în lacuri, urcând în curenți rapizi cu fundul stâncos pentru reproducere. Ca și alte tipuri de crap, ele sunt omnivore, mănâncă nu numai alge, crustacee, insecte, broaște și alte pești, ci și fructe care cad din copaci deasupra capului.
