Megalit
O megalit este o piatră mare care a fost folosită pentru a construi o structură sau monument, fie singură, fie împreună cu alte pietre. Cuvântul "megalit" descrie structuri realizate din pietre atât de mari, folosind un sistem de interblocare fără utilizarea de mortar sau ciment, precum și reprezentând perioade de preistorie caracterizate de astfel de construcții. Pentru perioadele ulterioare termenul monolit, cu un înțeles care se suprapune, este mult mai probabil să fie folosit. Cuvantul "megalita" provine din greaca antica "μεγα" care inseamna "mare" si "λίθος" inseamna "piatra". Megalitul înseamnă, de asemenea, un obiect constând din roci cesate în forme definite pentru scopuri speciale. Acesta a fost folosit pentru a descrie clădirile construite de oameni din multe părți ale lumii care trăiesc în multe perioade diferite. O varietate de pietre mari sunt văzute ca megalite, cele mai cunoscute megalite nu sunt sepulculare. Construcția acestor structuri a avut loc în principal în perioada neolitică și a continuat în epoca calcolit și bronz.
