Monofizitismul este poziția hristologică care, după unirea divinului și a omului în Întruparea istorică, Isus Hristos, ca întrupare a Fiului veșnic sau a Cuvântului lui Dumnezeu, nu avea decât o singură "natură", fie divină, fie sinteza divină și umană. Monofizitismul este în contrast cu diofizitismul care susține că Hristos a păstrat două naturi, unul divin și unul uman, după întrupare. Din punct de vedere istoric, monofizitismul se referă în primul rând la poziția acelora care au respins Conciliul de la Calcedon în 451. Membrii moderați ai acestui grup, totuși, au menținut o teologie "Miafizită" care a devenit cea a bisericilor ortodoxe orientale. Mulți ortodocși orientali resping label-ul "Monofizit" chiar și ca termen generic, dar sunt folosiți pe larg în literatura istorică.
