Morphallaxis
Morfalaxia este regenerarea țesutului specific într-o varietate de organisme din cauza pierderii sau decesului țesutului existent. Cuvântul vine de la allaktul grecesc, ceea ce înseamnă schimbul. Exemplul clasic al morfallaxiei este acela al Hydrai cnidariene, unde, atunci când animalul este tăiat în două, secțiunile reunite rămase formează două hidrate funcționale și independente. Trăsătura notabilă a morfallaxiei este că o mare parte a țesutului regenerat provine din țesutul deja prezent în organism. Adică, o secțiune separată a hidrei se formează într-o versiune mai mică a hidra originală, de aproximativ aceeași dimensiune ca secțiunea tăiată. Prin urmare, există o "schimbare" de țesut. Cercetătorii Wilson și Child au arătat circa 1930 că dacă hidra este pulpată și celulele disasociate trec printr-o sită, acele celule introduse apoi într-o soluție apoasă s-ar transforma în scurt timp în organismul original, cu toate țesuturile diferențiate aranjate corect. Morfalaxia este adesea contrară cu epimorfoza, care se caracterizează printr-un grad relativ mult mai mare de proliferare celulară.
