Adoxa moschatellina este unicul membru al genului Adoxa. Se dezvoltă în Europa, Asia și America de Nord, în păduri de pădure, la pădurile răcoroase, la altitudini joase din nordul îndepărtat, la altitudini înalte din munții din sudul zonei. Planta și florile sale au un miros asemănător moscului, pe care îl emite spre seara când cădea roua. Dacă planta este zdrobită, acest miros dispare. În Europa, flori în aprilie și mai. Numele "episcop cu cinci fețe" și "ceas de primăvară" aluzie la structura inflorescenței sale. Acesta este format din cinci flori: o floare cu patru petale, orientată în sus, și patru flori cu cinci petale, orientate pe orizontală, așa cum se vede în imagini.
