Narativ
O narațiune este orice cont despre evenimente legate, prezentat unui cititor sau ascultător într-o succesiune de cuvinte scrise sau rostite sau într-o secvență de imagini. Narativul poate fi organizat într-o serie de categorii tematice și / sau formale / stilistice: non-ficțiune; conturi ficționalizate ale evenimentelor istorice; și ficțiune proprie. Narațiunea se regăsește în toate formele de creativitate și artă umană, inclusiv vorbire, scriere, cântece, film, televiziune, jocuri, fotografie, teatru și arte vizuale, cum ar fi pictura care descrie o serie de evenimente. Cuvântul derivă din narrația verbului latin, "to say", derivată din adjectivul gnarus, "cunoașterea" sau "priceperea". Narativul se regăsește și în procesele de povestire orale, așa cum se vede în multe comunități indigene din America. Povestirea narativă este folosită pentru a ghida copiii asupra comportamentului adecvat, a istoriei culturale, a formării unei identități comunale și a valorilor.
