Organizația pentru Cooperare și Dezvoltare Economică este o organizație economică internațională din 34 de țări înființată în 1961 pentru a stimula progresul economic și comerțul mondial. Este un forum al țărilor dedicate democrației și economiei de piață, oferind o platformă pentru a compara experiențele politice, a căuta răspunsuri la problemele comune, a identifica bunele practici și a coordona politicile interne și internaționale ale membrilor săi. OCDE își are originea în 1948 ca Organizație pentru Cooperare Economică Europeană, condusă de Robert Marjolin din Franța, pentru a ajuta la administrarea Planului Marshall. Acest lucru se va realiza prin alocarea de ajutoare financiare americane și implementarea unor programe economice de reconstrucție a Europei după cel de-al doilea război mondial, unde eforturi similare în Actul de Cooperare Economică din 1948 al Statelor Unite ale Americii, care stipula Planul Marshall, în altă parte a lumii, până la războiul din China și Coreea de după război, dar programul de recuperare american în Europa a fost cel mai de succes.
