Oman
Oman, numit oficial Sultanatul Omanului, este un stat arab în Asia de sud-vest pe coasta sud-estică a Peninsulei Arabe. Are o poziție strategică importantă la gura Golfului Persic. Ea este mărginită de Emiratele Arabe Unite spre nord-vest, Arabia Saudită spre vest și Yemen spre sud-vest și împărtășește granițele maritime cu Iranul și Pakistanul. Coasta este formată din Marea Arabiei în sud-est și din Golful Oman în nord-est. Exclavii Madha și Musandam sunt înconjurați de EAU pe granițele lor terestre, cu strâmtoarea Hormuz și Golful Oman, formând granițele de coastă ale lui Musandam. Începând cu secolul al XVII-lea, Oman a avut propriul său imperiu și a văzut cu Portugalia și Marea Britanie pentru influență în Golful Persic și Oceanul Indian. La vârf în secolul al XIX-lea, influența sau controlul Omani s-au extins prin Strâmtoarea Hormuzului în Iran și Pakistanul modern și, la sud, Zanzibar. Pe măsură ce puterea sa a scăzut în secolul XX, sultanatul a intrat sub influența puternică a Regatului Unit, deși Oman nu era niciodată oficial parte a Imperiului Britanic sau protectorat britanic.
