În topologie, un set deschis este un concept abstract care generalizează ideea unui interval deschis în linia reală. Cel mai simplu exemplu este în spațiile metrice, unde seturile deschise pot fi definite ca acele seturi care conțin o minge deschisă în jurul fiecăruia dintre punctele lor; totuși, un set deschis, în general, poate fi foarte abstract: orice colecție de seturi poate fi numită deschisă, atâta timp cât este deschisă unirea unui număr arbitrar de seturi deschise, intersecția unui număr finit de seturi deschise este deschisă, și spațiul în sine este deschis.
