În 2002, o revizuire făcută de Academiile Naționale de Știință a constatat că, în populațiile neinstruite în contramăsuri, testarea poligrafilor poate să discrimineze din minciuna adevărului spunând la rate mai mari decât șansele, deși sub perfecțiune.
