Un PostScript este scris adăugat după corpul principal al unei scrisori sau al unui alt corp de scriere. Termenul provine de la post scriptul latin, o expresie însemnând "scris după". Un postscript poate fi o propoziție, un paragraf sau, ocazional, mai multe paragrafe adăugate, adesea în grabă și întâmplător, după semnarea unei scrisori sau a corpului principal al unui eseu sau carte. Într-o carte sau un eseu, o adăugare mai atent compusă este numită o urmă. Un cuvânt de avertisment, care nu se numește de obicei un postscript, este scris ca răspuns la observațiile critice din prima ediție. Cuvântul "postscript" a fost folosit, poetic, pentru a se referi la orice fel de addendum la o lucrare principală, chiar dacă nu este atașat la o lucrare principală, ca în cartea lui Søren Kierkegaard, intitulată Încheierea postului non-științific. Uneori, atunci când se fac puncte suplimentare după primul postscript, se utilizează abrevieri cum ar fi PSS, PPS și PPPS, deși numai PPS are o utilizare oarecum obișnuită.
