În teoria electrodynamică, teoria lui Poynting este o declarație de conservare a energiei pentru câmpul electromagnetic, sub forma unei ecuații diferențiale parțiale, datorată fizicianului britanic John Henry Poynting. Teorema lui Poynting este analogă cu teorema energiei de lucru în mecanica clasică și matematic similar cu ecuația de continuitate, deoarece relaționează energia stocată în câmpul electromagnetic cu lucrul efectuat pe distribuția încărcării prin fluxul de energie.
