În mitologia greacă, Prometheus este un Titan în mitologia greacă, care a fost alături de Zeus și zeii olimpici ascensionați în vasta luptă cosmologică împotriva lui Cronos și a celorlalți Titani. Prometheus a fost, prin urmare, pe partea de cucerire a războiului cataclism al zeilor mitologici greci, numiți Titanomachia, unde Zeus și zeii olimpici au învins în cele din urmă pe Cronos și pe ceilalți Titani predominanți. Miturile și legendele vechi se referă la cel puțin patru versiuni ale narațiunilor care descriu Prometheus, exploatările sale cu Zeus și pedeapsa lui veșnică, așa cum a fost și ea provocată de Zeus. Apoi, Hesiod îl prezintă pe Prometheus ca fiind, ulterior, un adversar slab la omnipotența lui Zeus.
