Protamina
Protaminele sunt mici, bogate în arginină, proteine nucleare care înlocuiesc histonele târziu în faza haploidă a spermatogenezei și sunt considerate esențiale pentru condensarea capului spermatozoid și stabilizarea ADN. Acestea pot permite o ambalare mai densă a ADN-ului în spermatozoizi decât histone, dar ele trebuie să fie decomprimate înainte ca datele genetice să poată fi utilizate pentru sinteza proteinelor.
