Psihometria este domeniul de studiu referitor la teoria și tehnica măsurării psihologice. O parte a domeniului se ocupă de măsurarea obiectivă a abilităților și a cunoștințelor, abilităților, atitudinilor, trăsăturilor de personalitate și realizărilor educaționale. De exemplu, cercetarea psihometrică sa axat pe construirea și validarea instrumentelor de evaluare, cum ar fi chestionarele, testele, judecățile evaluatorilor și testele de personalitate. O altă parte a domeniului se referă la cercetarea statistică care se referă la teoria măsurătorilor. Astfel, psihometria implică două sarcini majore de cercetare: construirea de instrumente și proceduri de măsurare; și dezvoltarea și perfecționarea metodelor teoretice de măsurare. Cei care practică psihometria sunt cunoscuți ca psihometrieni. Toți psihometricii posedă o calificare psihometrică specifică, iar în timp ce majoritatea sunt psihologi cu pregătire avansată în studii psihometrice. Mulți muncesc în departamentele de resurse umane. Alții se specializează ca profesioniști în domeniul învățării și dezvoltării.
