Redpolls sunt un grup de păsări mici passerine din familia Fringillidae, care au marcaje roșii caracteristice pe capetele lor. Acestea au fost introduse anterior în genul Acanthis, împreună cu inelele și twiturile, dar rudele lor cele mai apropiate sunt, de fapt, fragmentele încrucișate, care sunt plasate în genul Loxia. Ultimul gen ar putea fi îmbinat cu Carduelis într-un singur gen, pentru care numele Loxia ar avea apoi prioritate. Dar acest lucru ar însemna schimbarea numelui unui număr mare de specii, iar adaptarea și biogeografia lor este evolutivă destul de ciudată, ar fi mai bine să reintroduceți Acanthis, în loc de a include numai roșu. Există mai multe forme foarte diferite, foarte strâns legate de roșu, care ar putea fi considerate ca fiind orice, de la una la cinci specii. Studiile recente au tendința de a susține trei specii, dar cu siguranță nu este clar. Toți rădăcini sunt specii de pădure din nordul țării, asociate cu mestecați de mesteacăn. Sunt păsări mici, de culoare maronie sau gri-maronie deasupra și cu un plasture de frunte roșu.
