În genetica moleculară, un represor este o proteină care leagă ADN sau ARN care inhibă expresia uneia sau mai multor gene prin legarea la operator. Un represor de legare a ADN-ului blochează atașarea ARN polimerazei la promotor, împiedicând astfel transcrierea genelor în ARN mesager. Un represor de legare a ARN se leagă la ARNm și previne translația ARNm în proteină. Această blocare a expresiei se numește represiune.
