Mecanica solului
Mecanica solului este o ramură a mecanicii de inginerie care descrie comportamentul solurilor. Diferă de mecanica fluidelor și de mecanica solidă, în sensul că solurile constau dintr-un amestec eterogen de fluide și particule, dar solul poate conține, de asemenea, solide organice, lichide și gaze și alte materii. Împreună cu mecanica rocilor, mecanica solului asigură baza teoretică pentru analiza în ingineria geotehnică, o sub-disciplină a ingineriei civile și a geologiei ingineriei, o subdiscipline a geologiei. Mecanica solului este folosită pentru a analiza deformările și fluxul de fluide în cadrul structurilor naturale sau artificiale care sunt susținute pe sau realizate din sol sau structuri care sunt îngropate în soluri.
