În ficțiune, un subplot este o componentă secundară a complotului care reprezintă o poveste laterală de sprijin pentru orice poveste sau complotul principal. Subloturile se pot conecta la parcelele principale, fie în timp și loc sau în semnificație tematică. Subloturile implică adesea personaje de sprijin, altele decât protagonistul sau antagonistul. Subloturile se deosebesc de complotul principal prin preluarea mai puțină a acțiunii, având loc evenimente mai puțin semnificative, cu un impact mai mic asupra "lumii" operei și apărând la personaje mai puțin importante. În scenariu, un subplot este numit "poveste B" sau "poveste C", etc.
