Timp imemorial
Timpul imemorial este o expresie care înseamnă timp care depășește limitele memoriei, înregistrării sau tradiției, pe termen nelimitat, "vechi dincolo de memorie sau înregistrare". Expresia este unul dintre puținele cazuri în limba engleză în care adjectivul este un postmodificator - unele alte fraze, cum ar fi termenii legali de avocați generali și marțiali ai tribunalelor, urmează și acest model, în mare parte datorită influenței normanului francez. Prin lege, înseamnă că o proprietate sau un beneficiu a fost atinsă atât de mult timp încât proprietarul nu trebuie să dovedească cum au ajuns să o dețină. Termenul a fost definit în mod formal în anumite scopuri: ▪ În legea engleză și derivatele sale, termenul imemorial înseamnă același lucru ca și timpul pierdut din minte, "un timp înainte de istoria legală și dincolo de memoria legală". În 1275, prin primul Statut al Westminsterului, timpul de memorie a fost limitat la domnia lui Richard I, începând cu 6 iulie 1189, data aderării regelui. De la acea dată, dovada deținerii sau utilizării neautorizate a oricărui drept nu a făcut necesară stabilirea subvenției inițiale în anumite circumstanțe. În 1832, timpurile imemoriale au fost redefinite ca fiind "Timpul în care memoria omului nu se întâmplă cu contrariul.
