Magnetul este un tip de metal, cunoscut și ca fierul curajos. Magnetul are un câmp magnetic și poate atrage alte detalii de fier spre el. Cuvantul magnet provine din grecescul "magnítis λιθos" care inseamna "piatra de magnezie". Acest lucru se datorează faptului că magnetul a fost descoperit pentru prima oară într-o regiune asiatică numită Magnesia. Una dintre unicitatea acestui magnet este atunci când magnetul este suspendat, direcția pe care o arată este nord-sud. Pe lângă magnetul original, există și magneți realizați de om. Magnetul original este magnetul permanent, în timp ce magnetul produs de om este permanent și unele sunt temporare. Majoritatea magneților folosiți astăzi sunt făcuți de oameni. Fiecare magnet are un "pol de sud" și un "pol de nord". Atunci când un capăt al magnetului este abordat de un alt vârf magnetic, ambele capete se vor trage unul în altul dacă capetele magnetice au polii diferiți. Pe de altă parte, se va întâmpla dacă ambele capete au același pol.
