Синдром поликистозных яичников, также называемый гиперандрогенной ановуляцией, или синдром Штейн-Левенталь, является одним из наиболее распространенных эндокринных расстройств среди женщин. СПКЯ имеет множество причин, которые не совсем понятны, но есть убедительные доказательства того, что это в значительной степени генетическое заболевание. PCOS вырабатывает симптомы примерно у 5-10% женщин репродуктивного возраста. Инсулинорезистентность связана с ожирением, диабетом типа 2 и высоким уровнем холестерина. Симптомы и тяжесть синдрома сильно различаются у женщин-женщин.
