Bir hava folyosu veya hava folyosu, kesitte görüldüğü şekliyle bir kanat veya bıçak veya yelken şeklindedir. Bir sıvı boyunca hareket ettirilen bir kanat profili vücudunun aerodinamik bir kuvvet oluşturduğu bilinmektedir. Bu kuvvetin hareket yönüne dik olan bileşenine asansör denir. Hareket yönüne paralel bileşene sürüklenme adı verilir. Sübsonic uçuşlu hava folyoları, yuvarlak ön kenarlı, tipik olarak üst ve alt yüzeylerin asimetrik eğriliği olan keskin bir çekme kenarı ile karakteristik bir şekle sahiptir. Su ile çalışan akışkan olarak tasarlanan benzer işlerin folyoları hidrofil olarak adlandırılır. Bir kanat üzerindeki kaldırma, öncelikle saldırı ve şekil açısının bir sonucudur. Uygun bir açıda yönlendirildiğinde hava folyosu yaklaşan havayı saptırır ve hava folyosunda sapmaya karşıt bir yönde bir kuvvet meydana getirir. Bu kuvvet aerodinamik kuvvet olarak bilinir ve iki bileşene ayrılabilir: kaldırma ve sürükleme. Çoğu folyo şekli, kaldırma oluşturmak için pozitif bir saldırı açısı gerektirir, ancak kubbeli hava folyoları, sıfır atak açısında kaldırma üretebilir.
