Ani
Ani, Ermenistan sınırının yakınında, Kars ilinde bulunan, yıkık bir ortaçağ Ermeni kent sitesi. 961 ile 1045 yılları arasında bugünkü Ermenistan'ın ve doğu Türkiye'nin çoğunu kaplayan ortaçağ Ermeni Krallığının başkentiydi. Kent, görsel olarak dramatik ve doğal olarak savunmacı, doğu tarafında Akhurian Nehri'nin vadisi ve batı tarafında Bostanlar veya Tzaghkotzadzor vadisi tarafından korunan üçgen bir mevkide yer almaktadır. Akhurian, Araks Nehri'nin bir koludur ve Türkiye ile Ermenistan arasındaki mevcut sınırın bir bölümünü oluşturur. "1001 Kilisenin Şehri" olarak anılan Ani, çeşitli ticaret yollarına dayanıyordu ve birçok dini yapıları, sarayları ve tahkimatı, dünyanın teknik ve sanatsal açıdan en gelişmiş yapıları arasındaydı. Ani'nin yüksekliği 100.000-200.000 kişilik bir nüfusa sahipti ve İstanbul, Bağdat ve Şam'ın rakibi idi. Çok önceden görkemi ve görkemiyle ünlenen Ani, 1319 depreminden sonra terkedildi ve büyük bir çoğunlukla unutuldu.
