Araceae, çiçeklerin spadix adı verilen bir çiçeklenme türüne dayandığı monokotiledonlu çiçekli bitkiler ailesinden biridir. Spadix genellikle bir spathe veya yaprak benzeri bir bıçak eşlik eder ve bazen kısmen kapatılır. Arum ailesi olarak da bilinirler, üyeler çoğunlukla alloh olarak aroidler olarak bilinirler. 107 cinsten ve 3700'den fazla türün ailesi, Yeni Dünya tropik bölgelerinde en çok çeşitlilik gösterir, ancak Eski Dünya tropik bölgelerinde ve kuzey ılıman bölgede de dağıtılmaktadır. Spirodera polyhiza'nın kapsamlı bir genomik çalışması Şubat 2014'te yayınlandı. Yaşayan Araceae'nin en büyük koleksiyonu Missouri Botanik Bahçelerinde muhafaza edildi. Araceae yaşayan diğer bir büyük koleksiyonu, araştırmacı ve aroid otoritesi Josef Bogner'in çabaları sayesinde Münih Botanik Bahçesi'nde bulunabilir.
