Sığır, büyük evcil kanatlı hayvanların en yaygın türüdür. Bunlar, Bovinae alt ailesinin önde gelen modern bir üyesidir, Bos cinsinin en yaygın türleri olup, en yaygın olarak Bos prijigenus olarak sınıflandırılırlar. Sığır, et için hayvancılık, süt ve diğer süt ürünleri için süt hayvanları ve taslak hayvanlar olarak yetiştirilir. Diğer ürünler deri ve gübre veya yakıt için gübredir. Hindistan'ın bazı kısımları gibi bazı bölgelerde sığırların önemli dini anlamları vardır.
