Bir karakter kodlama sistemi, verilerin telekomünikasyon şebekeleri vasıtasıyla iletilmesini kolaylaştırmak için belirli bir repertuardaki her karakteri bir bit deseni, doğal sayı dizisi, sekizli sayı veya elektrik sinyali gibi çiftlerle eşleştiren bir koddan oluşur veri depolama.
