Demokrasi
Demokrasi, tüm uygun vatandaşların doğrudan ya da dolaylı olarak seçilmiş temsilciler aracılığıyla, yasaların önerilmesi, geliştirilmesi ve oluşturulmasına eşit biçimde katılmakta olduğu bir hükümet biçimidir. Sosyal, dini, kültürel, etnik ve ırksal eşitlik, adalet ve özgürlükleri kapsar. Bu terim, M.Ö. 5. yüzyılda, o zaman Yunan şehir devletlerinde mevcut olan politik sistemleri ifade etmek için δῆμος "insanlar" ve κράτος "güç" ya da "kural" 'da bulunan "halkın egemenliği" nden kaynaklanmaktadır Atina; terim ἀριστοκρατία "elit kural" ın zıddıdır.
