Elul, Yahudi sivil yılının onikinci ayı ve İbranice takvimdeki dini yılın altıncı ayıdır. 29 günlük yaz ayıdır. Elul genellikle Ağustos-Eylül aylarında Gregoryen takviminde görülür. Ayın adı, İbranice takvim aylarının geri kalanı gibi, Babil Sürgünden getirildi ve "Hasat" için Akkaç kelimesinden geldi. Benzer bir ay ismi Akuda'da eluûlu olarak da kullanılmıştır. Yahudi geleneğinde, Elul ayı, Rosh Haşanah ve Yom Kippur'un Yüksek Kutsal Günlerine hazırlık için pişmanlık zamanıdır. "Elul" kelimesi, Aramice'deki "arama" fiilinin köküne benzer. Talmud, İbranice "Elul" sözcüğünün "Ani L'dodi V'dodi Li" nin kısaltması olarak genişletilebileceğini yazıyor: "Sevgili üyelerim ve sevgilim benimdir".
