Ergot veya ergot mantarları, Claviceps cinsinden mantar türlerini ifade eder. Bu grubun en önemli üyesi Claviceps purpurea'dır. Bu mantar, çavdar ve ilgili bitkiler üzerinde yetişir ve meyve yapısıyla kontamine olan tahılları tüketen insanlarda ve diğer memelilerde ergotizme neden olan alkaloidler üretir. Claviceps, çoğunlukla tropik bölgelerde bulunan 50 kadar bilinen türü içerir. Ekonomik açıdan önemli türler arasında C. purpurea, C. fusiformis, C. paspali ve C. africana bulunur. C. purpurea genelde çavdar gibi tritikale, buğday ve arpa gibi dışa aktarılmış türleri etkiler. Yulafı nadiren etkiler. C. purpurea, konukçu özgünlüğünde farklı en az üç ırka veya çeşide sahiptir: ▪ G1 - açık çayır ve tarlaların kara çayırları; ▪ G2 - nemli, orman ve dağlık yaşam alanlarından gelen otlar; ▪ G3 - tuz bataklık otları.
