Monastisizm veya monkhood, dini bir yaşam biçimidir ve kendisinin ruhsal çalışmaya tam olarak adamak için dünyevi çabalardan vazgeçer. Manastır yaşam birçok Hıristiyan kilisesinde, özellikle Katolik ve Ortodoks geleneklerde önemli bir rol oynamaktadır. Dini hayatın benzer biçimleri diğer dinlerde, özellikle de Budizm'de değil, aynı zamanda Hinduizm ve Jainizm'de de geçerlidir, ancak ifadeler önemli ölçüde farklıdır. Manastır yaşamını sürdüren erkekler genellikle keşiş olarak bilinirken kadın monastolara rahibeler denir. Birçok keşiş ve rahibeler manastırlarda laik dünyadan uzak durmak için yaşar. Monastiğin ele alınış biçimi Hristiyan gelenekleri arasında farklılık gösterir. Genel bir kural olarak, Roma Katolikliği'nde keşişler ve rahibelere kardeşler denirken, Ortodoks Hıristiyanlıkta babalara ya da annelere çağrılırlar.
