Bir maymun, Haplorrhini alt sınırının ve maymun ve insanlar hariç tuttuğu, Eski Dünya maymunu veya Yeni Dünya maymununun simian enkrasisi olan bir primattır. Biyolojide en yaygın olan bu tanıma göre maymunlar, bozulmamış, lemur, maymun veya insanlar olmayan ve yaklaşık olarak bilinen 260 canlı türden oluşan tüm primatlar grubudur.
