Özgün bir eser başkalarından değil, başkalarının eserlerinden kopyalanamaz ya da başkalarının eserlerine dayanmaz. Benzersiz bir tarz ve madde ile yaratılmış bir eserdir. "Özgünlük" terimi genellikle sanatçıların, yazarların ve düşünürlerin yaratıcılığına iltifat olarak uygulanır.
