Krzysztof Eugeniusz Penderecki Polonya'nın besteci ve şefidir. Guardian ona Polonya'nın en büyük yaşayan bestecisini çağırdı. En çok bilinen eserleri arasında Hiroşima Mağdurlarına Korku, Aziz Luke Tutkusu, Lehçe Requiem, Anaklasis, dört opera, sekiz senfoni ve diğer orkestra parçaları, çeşitli enstrümantal konçerto, çoğunlukla dini metinlerin koro ayarları ve oda ve enstrümantal eserler. Dębica'da avukat olarak doğan Penderecki, Jagiellonian Üniversitesi'nde ve Krakov'daki Müzik Akademisinde müzik okudu. Müzik Akademisi'nden mezun olduktan sonra Penderecki akademide öğretmen oldu ve kariyerine 1959'da Varşova Sonbahar Festivali sırasında besteci olarak başladı. Telli orkestra için Hiroşima Mağdurlarına Mukavemet ve Aziz Luke Tutku adlı koro eseri popüler beğeni topladı. İlk operası Loudun'un Devils'i hemen başarılı değildi. 1970'lerin ortalarından başlayarak Penderecki'nin besteci tarzı, ilk keman konçertosu semitona ve tritone odaklanarak değişti.
