Bir pentagram beş düz siyaha boyanmış beş sivri bir yıldız şeklindedir. Pentagram kelimesi πεντάγραμμον'dan gelen Yunanca kelime πέντε, "beş" + γραμμή, "line" dan gelir. "Pentacle" kelimesi bazen "pentagram" ile eş anlamlı kullanılır. Pentalpha kelimesi, post-klasik bir Yunan adının modern bir canlandırmasıdır.
