Psikoloji ve psikiyatride perseverasyon, bir uyarıcının yokluğuna veya durmasına rağmen, genellikle beyin hasarı veya diğer organik bozukluklardan kaynaklanan belirli bir yanıtın, örneğin bir kelime, cümle veya jestin tekrarlanmasıdır. Belirtiler arasında "toplumsal bağlamla, toplumsal olarak alakalı veya uygun olmayı bıraktıktan sonra sözcüklerin veya jestlerin tekrarlanması ile kanıtlandığı gibi, fikirleri uygun bir şekilde değiştirme veya değiştirme yeteneği" veya "bunu yapma görevi" vardır; daha stereotip olarak tanımlanmaz.
