Önemli nedenler arasında kardiyovasküler hastalık, kronik solunum yolu hastalığı, kasıtsız yaralar, şeker hastalığı ve bazı bulaşıcı hastalıklar bulunur. Aynı çalışma, yoksul diyet ve yerleşik bir yaşam tarzı nedeniyle her yıl ABD'de 400.000 kişinin hayatını kaybettiğini tahmin ediyor.
