Sözde kod, bir bilgisayar programının veya başka bir algoritmanın çalışma prensibinin gayriresmi üst düzey bir tanımıdır. Bir programlama dili yapısal kurallarını kullanır, ancak makine okumadan ziyade insani okumaya yöneliktir. Sözde kod genellikle, değişken bildirimleri, sisteme özgü kod ve bazı altprogramlar gibi, algoritmanın insan tarafından anlaşılması için gerekli olmayan ayrıntıları atlar. Programlama dili, uygun olduğu yerde, doğal dil tanımlama ayrıntılarıyla veya kompakt matematiksel gösterimle zenginleştirilmiştir. Yalancı kod kullanmanın amacı, insanların geleneksel programlama dili kodlarından daha kolay anlamak ve bir algoritmanın temel prensiplerinin verimli ve çevre açısından bağımsız bir tanımlaması olmasıdır.
