Sabun
Kimyada, sabun bir yağ asidi tuzudur. Sabunlar ağırlıklı olarak yıkama, banyo ve temizlik için sürfaktan olarak kullanılır, ancak tekstil iplikçiliğinde de kullanılırlar ve yağlayıcıların önemli bileşenleridirler. Temizleme sabunları, sebze ya da hayvansal yağların ve yağların güçlü alkalin solüsyonuyla işlenmesiyle elde edilir. Yağlar trigliseritlerden oluşur; Gliserolün tek bir molekülüne üç molekül yağ asidi bağlanır. Sıklıkla lye olarak adlandırılan alkali çözeltisi, sabunlaşma olarak bilinen bir kimyasal reaksiyon getirir. Bu reaksiyonda, trigliserid yağları önce serbest yağ asitlerine hidrolize edilir ve daha sonra bunlar, ham sabun, çeşitli sabun tuzlarının bir karışımı, aşırı yağ veya alkali, su ve serbestleştirilmiş gliserol oluşturmak üzere alkali ile birleştirilir. Gliserin sabun ürününde bir yumuşatıcı madde olarak bırakılabilir veya diğer kullanımlar için izole edilebilen yararlı bir yan-urundur. Sabunlar, genellikle kalsiyum sabunu emülsiyonları veya lityum sabunları ve mineral yağı olan çoğu yağlayıcı gresin kilit bileşenidir. Bu kalsiyum ve lityum esaslı gresler yaygın şekilde kullanılmaktadır.
