STIGMATIZATION SÖZCÜĞÜ İNGILIZCE DİLİNDE NE ANLAMA GELİR?

Toplumsal damgalama, bir kişinin veya grubun toplumsal karakteristik gerekçelerle aşırı kabul edilmemesi ve bu kişilerin bir toplumun diğer üyelerinden algılanması ve onları ayırt etmesine hizmet etmesidir. Damgalama daha sonra, kültürel normlarından farklılaşan daha büyük toplum tarafından böyle bir kişiye yapıştırılabilir. Toplumsal damgalama zihinsel hastalık, fiziksel engeller, cüzzam, gayri meşruiyet, cinsel yönelim, cinsel kimlik, cilt tonu, eğitim, uyrukluk, etnisite, ideoloji, din veya suçluluk gibi algılardan kaynaklanabilir. Toplumsal damgayla ilişkili özellikler, toplumun, dünyanın farklı yerlerinde uyguladığı jeopolitik ve buna bağlı sosyopolitik bağlamlara bağlı olarak değişir. Goffman'a göre toplumsal damgalamanın üç biçimi vardır: ▪ Yara izleri, nervoza anoreksisinin fiziksel olarak belirtileri, cüzzam veya obezite gibi fiziksel engellilik veya sosyal sakatlık gibi aşırı veya harici deformasyonlar. ▪ Zihinsel hastalık, uyuşturucu bağımlılığı, alkolizm ve ceza tazminatı gibi kişisel özelliklerde sapmalar bu şekilde damgalanır.
