Botanikte stoma, gaz değişimini kontrol etmek için kullanılan yaprak, sap ve diğer organların epidermisinde bulunan bir gözenektir. Gözenek, açıklığın boyutunun düzenlenmesinden sorumlu koruma hücreleri olarak bilinen bir çift uzmanlaşmış parankim hücresi ile sınırlanır. Bu terim toplu olarak, hem gözenek kendisi hem de ona eşlik eden bekçi hücreleri olan bir bütün stomatal kompleksi belirtmek için kullanılır. Karbon dioksit ve oksijen içeren hava bu açıklıklardan bitkiye girer ve sırasıyla mezofil hücrelerinde ve solunumda fotosentezde kullanılır. Fotosentezin yan ürünü olarak üretilen oksijen, bu açıklıklar boyunca atmosfere yayılır. Ayrıca, su buharı, bu gözenekler yoluyla terleme adı verilen bir süreçte atmosfere salınır.
